COPYRIGHT

Copyrights do exactly what they sound like:  protect against copying creative works such as a story, article, photographs, drawings, paintings, sculptures, and computer program.  The key is the creative work must be put in a physical medium. So, for example, a song or a speech must be written or recorded to be protected by copyright law.   Anytime you turn a creative work into a physical medium, it is automatically copyrighted under current law.  However, a copyright must be federally registered to enforce the copyright in court.  Furthermore, there are legal incentives to federally register a copyright before or shortly after the copyrighted material is published.

The attorneys at Chicago IP Law are highly experienced in advising about and registering copyrights, in additional to being experienced federal trial lawyers enforcing and defending copyright infringement claims.
